Navkiran Nahal
We all need someone to listen to us. We all need to be heard. But all too often, our responsibilities and commitments to our families, our friends, or even our employers, make it incredibly difficult to have any space for us to experience and process our negative emotions free from judgement, or repercussions.
Even as a therapist, it is not for me to tell you how to think or feel, or what to do. I believe that you are your own greatest ally and expert in your life.
My role, and my commitment to you, is to provide a safe, trustworthy and non-judgemental space for you to share your thoughts and concerns, and to keep you at the centre as we work together to explore your experiences and move toward identifying patterns and behaviours or processing traumatic events.
I am BACP and UKCP accredited and have earned an MSc in Person-Centered and Experiential Psychotherapy. And with 4 years of counselling and 20 years of supporting people, I can offer you the space where you can bring yourself back to you, and use this awareness to move forward with a stronger and clearer sense of self.

How I Work
The way I work is not to create a solid fixed person.
Rather, I help people to find their flexibility to be aware, shift, and hold yourself through difficult life experiences.

Initial Consultation
This is a free consultation either by phone or via video conferencing.
You are able to ask me any questions and we both get a feel for what it might be like to work together.
We also scope out the logistics of where, when and how often to meet.
First Session
If you decide that you wish to work with me, the first session has two main aims.
To create a contract between us so that we both know what we expect from each other and how we will work together.
For you to tell me your story and how you want therapy to support you so that we can begin to identify your goals.
Review Points
It is so important that we keep checking in with each other throughout our relationship.
Reviews allow us to identify what is working, what isn’t, and consider how we may change to ensure that we are on track with your needs.
You can ask for a review whenever you need. I may also ask us to review to ensure that what I am offering is meeting your needs.
Ending
I don’t believe that our relationship with our mental health ever ends, but you may decide that you have worked through your initial goals and would like to manage your mental health using the learning from our sessions.
As we end our time together, we can reflect on the learning and identify how you can use the new knowledge to support you as you move forward.
Who I Work With
I am open to working with anyone who feels that I can help them. However, I am aware that the therapeutic relationship is not just about my qualifications. Therapy works best when we work with therapists that we feel comfortable with, who we feel safe with.
To begin I feel it is important that we have a sense of each other before we begin working together. To support this, I offer a free 30-minute call, after which, you can decide whether I sound like the kind of therapist you are looking for.
I help people to work through a range of issues including:
- addiction
- bereavement
- co-dependency
- personality disorders
- relationship difficulties
- survivors of sexual assault
- survivors of emotional or physical abuse and trauma
However, I am particularly experienced in working with:
- people through anxiety or depression
- survivors of domestic abuse
- those whose lives have been impacted by issues born of race or culture

Frequently Asked Questions
I have provided answers to the questions I get asked most often below, but if you have any questions that I haven’t answered, please, please, please contact me through the form below and I will be happy to talk to you about them.
Ask a questionHow much do you charge per session?
I charge £50.00 per hour, but as a therapist who believes that therapy should be available to everyone, I offer a sliding scale of payment for students and those on low incomes.
My aim is never to turn anyone away based on their financial situation. Please ask for further information during our consultation.
Please note that I may ask to see proof of student or low-income status if I offer you a discounted rate.
How many sessions will I need?
Some people come with a fixed idea of how many sessions they can commit to. In these cases, our initial session will consider what area you wish to focus on and set goals that realistically may be achieved.
Open-ended therapy has no fixed end date. Instead, we will regularly check in with where you are in the work you are doing and you have the right to end your therapy whenever you want.
What happens in a session?
Sessions run for 60 minutes and take place in my office.
During the session, you can bring whatever you need to talk about. Some people like to work on a single issue throughout their time in therapy, other people bring a range of areas of their life that they want to explore.
The choice is up to you, this is your session, you are the expert in what you need to bring.
What if I need support between sessions?
Sometimes you may be working through events that may require some between-session support.
To support you with this I do offer 20-minute phone sessions to help during experiences of distress.
If this extra support is accessed regularly this may be a sign of needing to increase the number of sessions you need.
Where can I book a session?
To enquire about booking a session, please contact me using the form at the bottom of this page.
Also, if you are only considering therapy at this time and have any questions, please do feel free to contact me, I am happy to help ensure that you find the right path for you.
Can I get therapy for a friend or relative?
You may have someone in your life, whether that be a member of your family, friends, partners or a work colleague who you feel may benefit to have someone to talk to.
Psychotherapy works when a person makes the choice to access help.
This however does not mean that you cannot contact me to discuss someone you care about. This may support you in beginning to talk to the person you are concerned about.
Will you charge me if I miss a session?
Missed Sessions
You are welcome to cancel a session up to 24 hours before the session. Sessions cancelled within the 24 hour period will be charged at the full session cost.
Lateness
Sessions will go ahead up to 20 minutes after the agreed start time of your session. If you are over 20 minutes late the session will be cancelled with the full fee payable.
How do I know if therapy is working for me?
Therapy works at different paces for everyone, but most people know therapy is working by how they are reacting to stressful situations.
People who attend therapy see an increase of self-awareness and use this to make decisions that do not result in the same levels of distress. It is hoped that by knowing yourself better you will be able to make better decisions for yourself.
Therapy aims to make you your best friend and your greatest ally so that you live your life in a way where you are taking care of yourself as well as meeting the needs around you.
When will I know it's time to finish therapy?
There is no set time that anyone stays in therapy.
Some people prefer to work within a set number of sessions. This may require yourself and me to agree upon a set of goals that we feel are achievable within the timescale.
Other people have no timeline. In those cases, endings are when you are ready.
Endings are part of a considered process where we will spend time identifying how you feel, what has been achieved and how you’d like to move forward.
